An Ode to Kaif Muradabadi

کمال جب ہے کہ اس راہ میں چراغ جلاؤ
(Kamaal jab hai ke is raah mein charaagh jalao,)

جو مدتوں سے ترستی ہے روشنی کے لئے
(Jo muddaton se tarasti hai roshni ke liye.)

وہاں ہواؤں کے رخ بھی نگاہ میں رکھنا
(Wahan hawaon ke rukh bhi nigah mein rakhna)

جہاں چراغ جلاتے ہو روشنی کے لیے
(Jahan charagh jalate ho roshni ke liye)


Translation:
Excellence lies in lighting a lamp on the path,
That has long been yearning for illumination.

Keep an eye on the direction of the winds,
Where you light a lamp for illumination.
