An Ode to Kaif Muradabadi

بقا کی فکر کرو خود ہی زندگی کے لئے
(Baqa ki fikr karo khud hi zindagi ke liye,)
زمانہ کچھ نہیں کرتا کبھی کسی کے لئے

کمال جب ہے کہ اس راہ میں چراغ جلاؤ

وہاں ہواؤں کے رخ بھی نگاہ میں رکھنا
Wahan hawaon ke rukh bhi nigah mein rakhna,
جہاں چراغ جلاتے ہو روشنی کے لئے
Jahan charaagh jalaate ho roshni ke liye.


Translation:

Care about sustenance for life itself,
The world never does anything for anyone.

Excellence lies in lighting a lamp on the path,
That has long been yearning for illumination.

Be mindful of the direction of the winds,
Wherever you light a lamp for illumination.
