An Ode To Shaukat Wasti

جنوں سکون خرد اضطراب چاہتی ہے
طبیعت آج نیا انقلاب چاہتی ہے

Passion, tranquility, reason, unrest desire,
Today nature seeks a new revolution's fire.

نہ آج تیری نظر سے برس رہا ہے نشہ
نہ میری تشنہ لبی ہی شراب چاہتی ہے

Neither from your gaze is pouring intoxication's rain,
Nor my thirsty lips desire any wine's refrain.

نہیں سرور مسلسل نباہ پر موقوف
مدام آنکھ کہاں لطف خواب چاہتی ہے

Not continuously in joy or sorrow's arrest,
My eyes forever search for the pleasures of sleep and rest.

سنا رہا ہوں فسانہ تری محبت کا
یہ کائنات عمل کا حساب چاہتی ہے

I hear the tale of your love's enchanting spell,
As the universe seeks a balanced tale to tell.

جھلس رہا ہے بدن دھوپ میں جوانی کی
یہ آگ زلف کا گہرا سحاب چاہتی ہے

In the sun's heat, youth's vigor still strives to stay,
As the depth of your tresses seeks the cloud's spray.

حریف حسن و محبت ہو دیر تک شوکتؔ
نگار عمر وہ عہد شباب چاہتی ہے

O, Shaukat, may love's rival and passion last long,
As the beauty of youth longs for the era of the youthful song.
