(Mohabbat ab talak rakhti hai yeh ta'seer Majnun mein)
کہ بن لیلیٰ نہیں کھنچتی کہیں تصویر مجنوں میں
(Ke bin Layla nahin khincheti kahin tasveer Majnun mein)

جنگل جنگل شوق کے مارے ناقہ سوار پھرا کی ہے مجنوں
(Jangal jangal shauq ke maare naaqa sawar phira ki hai Majnun)
جو صحرائی ہوا تو لیلیٰ بھی سودائی ہوئی
(Jo sahrayi hua to Layla bhi sudai hui)
Through deserts, with passion, Majnun did wander,
Layla, too, became love's ardent responder.

آہستہ قدم رکھیو تو اے ناقۂ لیلیٰ
(Aahista qadam rakhiyo to ae naaqa-e-Layla)
مجنوں کا بندھا آتا ہے دل گام سے تیرے
(Majnun ka bandha aata hai dil gaam se tere)
Step gently, oh Layla’s steed so bright,
Majnun’s tethered heart follows your flight.

کانٹوں سے یہ کہہ رہی ہے لیلیٰ
(Kaanton se yeh keh rahi hai Layla)
مجنوں مرا برہنہ پا ہے
(Majnun mera barhana pa hai)
Layla whispers to the thorns of the wild,
“Majnun walks barefoot, so soft and mild.”

قیس جنگل میں اکیلا ہے مجھے جانے دو
(Qais jangal mein akela hai mujhe jaane do)
خوب گزرے گی جو مل بیٹھیں گے دیوانے دو
(Khoob guzregi jo mil baithenge deewane do)
“Qais roams the wilderness alone, let me go,”
“When lovers unite, joy overflows.”

کیا نقش میں مجنوں ہی کے تھی رفتگی عشق
(Kya naqsh mein Majnun hi ke thi raftagi-e-ishq)
لیلیٰ کی بھی تصویر تو حیران کھڑی ہے
(Layla ki bhi tasveer toh hairan khadi hai)
Was love’s madness Majnun’s image alone?
Even Layla’s portrait stands bewildered, overthrown.

مجنوں بھی نہ رسواے جہاں ہوتا نہ وہ
(Majnun bhi na ruswa-e-jahan hota na woh)
آپ مکتب میں جو کم آتی پہ لیلیٰ تھی دوانی
(Aap maktab mein jo kam aati pe Layla thi deewani)
Majnun wouldn’t face the world’s disdain,
If not for Layla’s schoolyard refrain.

نجد سے جانب لیلیٰ جو ہوا آتی ہے
(Najd se jaanib-e-Layla jo hawa aati hai)
دل مجنوں کے دھڑکنے کی صدا آتی ہے
(Dil Majnun ke dhadakne ki sada aati hai)
From Najd’s plains, as winds towards Layla flow,
Majnun’s heartbeats echo, their rhythm aglow.
